My Cousin Vinny (1992)

My Cousin Vinny (1992)

8/10

Starring
Joe Pesci
Ralph Macchio
Marisa Tomei

Directed by Jonathan Lynn

This movie was done in 1992, 19 years ago and yet still watching it all over again (2nd time in 2 weeks) I found myself laughing hard.

The whole plot was well planned out. I also have to give the casting crew credit for this one, for casting Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei. Marisa out did herself in this movie and I was glad that she won an Academy Award for it, the growth from Bill’s Cosby ‘A different world’to this classic is just exceptional. The movie is a sit down comedy that will keep you chuckling after the last scene is over. Being a lawyer is a lot harder than it looks, and Joe Pesci showed us that.

The courthouse scenes were filmed on a set based on the courthouse in the town square of Monticello, Georgia. The movie has been praised for its comedy's realistic depiction of courtroom procedure and trial strategy.

Back to the movie, listening to the music that goes with the movie makes you want to buy the soundtrack.

The plot is about two friends who got themselves in a jam with the law and were facing serious prison time when one decided to call his cousin Vinny to come help out. But Vinny was not a lawyer.

The directing done by Jonathan Lynn, not only does he tell a story of a courtroom drama, but it in a way makes you feel like you’re in the shoes of Vincent Gambini (Joe Pesci) and you are learning how to be a lawyer.

The dialogue of the movie was what makes this movie a master piece. The movie doesn’t try to thrill you with acting gimmicks, foolishness and unnecessary clichés, but by sharp words and well thought of lines that takes you to the laugh bank.

Now a day we are not so thrilled again, but yet still some movies still pull some cool stunts at trying to make you laugh and unlike Meet the Parents which pulled it off with wonderful dialogue and Hangover which mixes both dialogue and foolishness.

The film was Fred Gwynne’s final film appearance before his death on July 2, 1993, of pancreatic cancer. Fred played Judge Chamberlain Haller.

The movie also starred Karate Kid star, Ralph Macchio, who has kinda faded away in the movie business, I can only recall seeing him inthe television comedy Ugly Betty in the recurring role of Archie, a local Queens politician.

He competed on the twelfth season of Dancing with the Stars which he came in fouth.

I will like to know which other funny comedies have you seen from the old days that makes you laugh any time you see it?
