Top 10 Buddy Cop Movies

Top Ten Buddy Cop Movies:

10) 21 Jump Street (2012)

I never expected this movie to matter, let alone be worth seeing when it was released. I saw this movie expecting a good time, but ended up being blown away by the ironic twist it took, the weird pairing and the unbelievable twists and turns it has.

9) Bon Cop Bad Cop (2006)

Bon Cop Bad Cop is a movie you have to see to fully grasp why it should be here.
There is almost nothing stupid that didn't happen in this movie and there is almost nothing weird that did not. This action comedy Canadian movie is bilingual, but no matter what you will be sold from the get go this miss-match pair were brought together to solve a case because a body landed with one half in one district and the other half in another.

8) Starsky and Hutch (2004)

I never got to see the very first incarnation of this duo, but I could not stop laughing when I sat to watch this movie. The antics, the fun, the dead pony and trying to land a car on a moving boat are all fun, but are nothing compared to the other unbelievable things that happened in this awesome flick.

7) Bad Boys (1995)

What you gonna do when they come for you?
This weird combination was just too much for the screen to handle, you cannot watch Bad Boys seven times and be satisfied, you have to see it more times just to get the whole fun out of your system. A name sticks with you when you are done watching this movie, Mike Lowrey.

6) In the Heat of the Night (1967)

They call me Mister Tibbs!
In 1967 Sidney Poitier starred in an awesome buddy cop movie where he was the out of town black guy in a racial intense movie. The greatness in this movie is how they manage to write a movie where the lead, a cop is trying to solve a case while also trying to save his own life from being killed because he was black. The movie is fast, all action no comedy and if you are not on your toes you will miss out.

5) Beverly Hills Cop

At one time, Eddie Murphy was a movie star and it started from 48 Hrs. a buddy cop movie he did in 1982 and from there Murphy grew. The Beverly Hills Cop series from 1984 - 1994 were just comedic buddy cop classics. The movie theme music sticks with you and the Murphy no rule following behavior makes you worried for the citizens he wants to protect.

4) 48 Hrs. (1982)

It will be a crime if this movie is not in the first half of this top ten. 48 Hrs. kind of launch the comedic buddy cop genre and for a long time no matter what year you see this movie, you will love and respect the acting. Murphy and Nolte were too good a pair on screen and you will be happy to support their course as they both try to out smart one another, while trying to catch the same bad guy.

3) Hot Fuzz (2007)

Hot Fuzz is that movie in every top ten that is not number one, because the actors and writers didn't even attempt to take the movie that serious to make it so. We are glad they did not because the thing that makes Hot Fuzz great is the absurd things you will not expect happening on screen.

2) Rush Hour (1998)

The makers of Rush Hour owe the masterpiece of this movie to Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. I have not seen a more formidable pair like this, expect in the number one movie on this list.
This movie has action, comedy and martial arts. Everything about this pair starts wrong and continues to be wrong until the movie ends, which is why Rush Hour will continue to be a classic in the Buddy Cop genre.

Now it will be unfair for me not to also note some other great buddy cop movies before we check out our number one.
Tango & Cash (1989)
Running Scared (1986)
Turner & Hooch (1989)

1) Lethal Weapon

Which Lethal Weapon? You may ask and the answer is all of them.
Here is a movie that cemented the buddy cop genre and refused to let it go. Every time you see a buddy cop movie you go, "great, but nothing is as good as the pair of Sgt Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Sgt Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover)."

These two were not a match made in heaven that is for sure, on their own Riggs was not doing good and was on a high risk of committing suicide which he rather do on the job.

Muthaugh was on his way to retirement and was willing to do anything to make sure he lives that long to retire.

The moment the two got paired together, the safety of all criminals or criminally minded people was at risk and so was the safety of the two.

This goes without saying, if you sit and watch Lethal Weapon 1, you will sit and watch the rest all the way to part 4. It is the best buddy cop movie I have seen so far and I wonder if the planned reboot can top it.

The TV series Lethal Weapon airing on FOX got a second season thumbs up as of now in 2017 while the CBS TV series based on Rush Hour, didn't make it past the first season
