Almost Christmas is almost a good movie. The movie did not totally suck and it had all the ingredients to make you laugh and make you have deep thoughts on the happenings on screen. The but in this is that it did not make the best use of all the ingredients it had to make the movie a memorable one.
The good thing about the movie is Monique. Her character was just all over the place making enough jokes to keep me interested on what was happening. Monique was not the only good thing the movie had Kimberly Elise, she gave a stunning performance in her portrayal of Cheryl all through the movie.
One of the bad thing about the movie is the movie had too many people in it, a lot of things were going on at the same time making it hard for you to keep up sometimes. Although the casts tried to dish out good performances, but there were too many of those “tries” going around and in the end I was left wishing some of them will just go away or quit showing up on screen. The problem with that is the director not making the best of the script and the writers wanting to jam too many actors into one film which is never a bad idea if you know how to use them well.
The movie had a cast line up of Kimberly Elise, Omar Epps, Danny Glover, Gabrielle Union, J.B. Smoove and more.
That said, the script was very cheesy and the story although I have to be honest not predictable at all times, but there was more than enough room for improvement.
The movie plot starts with the introduction of Walter Meyers (Danny Glover) who is now a widower after the passing of his wife. This will be the first Christmas the family will have after her passing and getting things just right the way she used to do it was becoming a problem.
His grown children and family were also coming for Christmas, along with them is their Aunty May (Monique).
The sibling rivalry started between the children and as Christmas was drawing near it looked like a dark and sad Christmas was ahead.
In the end, I cannot safely tell anyone to go see this movie, but leave it to you to decide to give it a try or not.
